For 1966 Buick performed a style change for the Le Sabre Invicta and Electra, giving these models a new body shape and allowing improved seating positions, legroom and vision. Coil Spring suspension was continued all around for 61, but the torque tube was replaced with a two section drive shaft with four universal joints. Engines, Dynaflow and Aluminum brakes remained the same as previous years.
The 1061 Buick Special was still based upon the 112 inch wheelbase unit construction body of previous years. Model included a four door sedan and a four door wagon . The special was powered by an all aluminum V-8 of 155 horsepower, connected to the new Split-torque automatic transmission.
