In 1961 Rambler changed the appearance of the V-8 Ambassador, the 117 inch wheel-base retained the unit body and chassis construction. The engine continued as the 250 HP V-8 with a 327-cubic -inch displacement, with compression ratio of 8.7 to 1, a two barrel carburetor and single exhaust. Optional configuration was a four-barrel carb 9.7 to 1 compression and a dual exhaust system., this “power-pack” developed 270 horsepower. The Ambassador like all other American Motors cars were equipped with ceramic-coated mufflers guaranteed for the life of the car. Syncromesh transmissions were standard.

American Motor Ambassador changed face with a smaller grill and a down-curved hood. Wheelbase remained 117 inches but the body shell was unchanged under the front sheet metal. The power plant was a 327 cubic inch V-8 which produced 250 horsepower.
