The Lancer was Dodge’s new compact, based on the previously successful unit body and chassis of the Valiant. The basic engine was 101- Horsepower slant six the had a 170 cubic inch displacement. A 225-cubic-inch engine putting out 135 Horse-power was an available option. Two-door sedan,¬† hardtop or four-door sedans and hardtops made up the available choices. Buyer had the choice of Manual or Automatic transmissions.

In 1961 Dodge put the Dart through a thorough restyling. The wheelbase continued at 118 inches and the height length and width did not appear to change, on the other hand the grille , hood, fenders and trim did get an update. Carried over from 1960 were the roof, glass area, basic unibody and frame. Power for 1961 was 135 HP slant six or 361 Cubic inch V-8. This was the point where Dodge switched from Generators to Alternators.
