1970 Mustang Mach 1 Called “The BIG KNIFE” The name that echoed like a bellowing exhaust note across the endless Bonneville salt flats when Mickey Thompson broke 295 records in his specially modifies Mach 1. There was nothing cool about the 1970 Mach 1 except it’s looks. Standard power was a 351 V-8, if you wanted more the was also 351 4v or the 428 Cobra 4v V8. A special option offered was the Cobra Jet Ram Air 428 with a through-the-hood shaker.

The 60’s American image car, 289 Cubic inch V8 produced 271 HP. The Ford Mustang was not the fastest thing on the road with a top speed of 120 MPH nor quick off the line at 0 to 60 in 8.3 seconds, but a price tag of $2950 the Mustang Fastback became a go to for the less affluent Playboy.
