As spin off from the Variety and Vaudeville shows The Chorus and Dancers became a genre themselves "Burlesque", over time to increase their audience their costumes got smaller and the dance performances evolved into a striptease.

During the 50s these entertainers migrated from the theatres which were falling apart at this point, and
into the the older nightclubs that had been built with large show spaces during the big band era and were
themselves needing a new audience.

During the 60s the chorus line disappeared and smaller purpose built clubs appeared at the same time as the Pasties disappeared.
TV entertainment and Film was pushing the sexual limits as much as they could so Strippers needed to go farther to attract an audience ultimately stripping naked.
